23. October 2025Austrian Post AG Invests in Electric All-Wheel Drive Vehicles
Austrian Post AG has already made significant progress in the deployment of electric vehicles in urban and rural areas. Now, another step is being taken towards CO₂-free delivery across Austria by 2030. In mountainous regions, all-wheel drive vehicles are being used, as some mountain roads can only be accessed with all-wheel drive.
First 100 Electric All-Wheel Drive Vehicles in Operation
To ensure reliable delivery even under winter road conditions, Austrian Post has now put its first 100 all-wheel drive electric vehicles into operation. This marks the first time that deliveries are being made electrically in mountainous regions. The company is investing over **four million euros** in the acquisition of these vehicles.
Peter Umundum, Board Member for Parcel & Logistics at Austrian Post AG, commented:
> “The deployment of our first all-wheel drive vehicles with electric drive is a true innovation! While other vehicle fleets are just beginning to transition to electric mobility in urban areas, we at the Post are taking a step further and bringing CO₂-free delivery to the last mile in mountainous regions. With the electric all-wheel drive, we not only ensure year-round and reliable delivery but also consistently shape logistics in Austria sustainably.”
Only Bidder for the Tender
In the tender for the procurement of all-wheel drive vehicles with electric drive, only one manufacturer responded. The Chinese manufacturer Maxus offered the eDeliver 7 4×4 model.
The electric transporter features a **battery capacity of 88 kilowatt-hours (kWh)**, which allows for a range of approximately **200 kilometers** in daily use. The vehicle offers a cargo space volume of **6.7 m³** as well as numerous amenities for the delivery personnel, including:
– Air conditioning
– Parking sensors
– Rearview camera
– Assistance systems such as emergency braking assistant, fatigue detection, and blind spot monitoring
Sustainable Replacement of Old Diesel Vehicles
In delivery bases that are already equipped with the necessary charging infrastructure, the electric all-wheel drive vehicles are gradually replacing the old all-wheel drive vehicles with diesel engines.
